about

Time Is Fire play music from a country that doesn’t exist. Fronted by an Iranian-born Sufi poet and backed by players steeped in punk, dance and experimental music, Time is Fire mixes pan-cultural rhythms, floor-shaking funk grooves and acid-laced guitar into a mind-expanding geopolitical dance party. Time is Fire’s newest release, “Angels,” is like an international airport hub of music in present day America, largely because of the varied backgrounds of its members. Sufi-inspired lyrics reveal revolutionary language and universal truths. Afro-punk grooves belie a deeper message about overcoming fear and inaction on the title track which features TV On The Radio's Smoota on trombone. The electro beats of Angolan Kuduro music inspire “Shelter.” “Turn Your TVs Off” crystallizes a new direction for the band, recalling the minimalist approach of ESG, Liquid Liquid and A Certain Ratio while “Words on the Walls” recalls Band of Gypsies-era Hendrix and Eno minimalism. At the end of the day however, Time Is Fire sound like Time Is Fire and the group naturally defies categorization.

Track Name: Angels
Mary Jane, dancing away
While my mind slowly walks away
Angels are light, are sitting on my couch while my heart slowly wonder s away
Is it time to stay, or is it time to just walk away
Leave me where I fell the other day
It will take time but I will stand up someday
Kill anything you want
I will watch as you fall
Take anything you want
I will watch as you fall
Mary jane, dancing away
While my mind slowly goes astray
Angels of light are leaving my side
Seems like I have lost my faith
Is it time to pray to him
Or go and wash my sins
Leave me where I fell the other day
It’ll take time but I’ll stand up someday
Kill anything you want
I will watch as you fall
Take anything you want
I will watch you as you fall
Memories that brought me to my knees
Are the songs that will set me free
Leave me where I fell the other day
It’ll take time but I’ll stand up someday
Melodies that brought you to my dreams
Are breaking down in my disbelief
Leave me where you left the other day
It will take years but I will stand up someday
Mary jane, dancing away
While my mind is flying far way
Angels of light, have left my side
Now I’m left with bottles and all my fears
Is it time to stay
Or is time to just walk away
Leave me where you left the other day
It will take time but I will stand up someday
Kill anything you want
I will watch you as you fall
Take anything you want
I will watch you as you fall
Memories that brought me to my knees
Are the songs that will set me free
Leave me where I fell the other day
It’ll take time but I’ll stand up someday
Melodies that brought you to my dreams
Are breaking down in my disbelief
Leave me where you left the other day
It will take years but I will stand up someday
